My friend Tristan has an amazing blog which you can catch up on right here - icecreamisbetterwithafork.tumblr.com. It's full of very fabulous little gems that she has picked up along the way, sprinkled with her daily insights and musings on love, life and community. Some of the things she has written about are done with such poise, honesty and soul that I feel guilty for reading it. It's like I've cracked open her journal and I'm reading the scribbled secrets. I adore the honesty and adore the Art she shares. Bravo, friend. Keeping it coming from the heart. You are inspiring me. x.
I recently saw Joan Rivers' stand-up show just down the street from me. She performed a stellar act in the Laurie Beechman Theatre which is downstairs inside one of my favorite lil' restaurants, the West Bank Cafe. Joan has a documentary coming out that looks fabulous. The woman is amazingly crude and offensive but insanely funny. Give a look at what is in store. The movie, A Piece of Work, opened just this past Friday.
I'm always a fan of photography that is different and refreshing. I really dig the work of Gabriel Wickbold. His work is varied as you can see HERE but what I really liked was his paint infused series. I love anything with a fun and funky new approach and these hit the mark. A few of my favorites are below but you should definitely check out his site for more groovy work.
I found the work of Daniele Buetti so interesting. Daniele places a myriad of holes in his pieces and then lights them from behind. While the original photograph is often not Daniele's own, the end product is clearly stamped with his own flare. Check out some fantastic ones below and see even more HERE.
The following is a somber little film made up of exterior shots of the last residential addresses of a slew of talented and ingenious New York City artists who died of AIDS. The video is simple yet quite moving. I hope you'll take a second to watch.
