Frozen in Grand Central.

As I was walking through Grand Central Station this morning, I remembered a video that I came across this weekend on one of my favorites sites, World of Wonder. This past Saturday a couple hundred improvisation actors from the witty group called Improv Everywhere decided to create a "FREEZE" on the Main Concourse of Grand Central Station. The actors froze in place at the exact same second for five minutes. Onlookers, mostly tourists, didn't know what to make of it. You certainly don't see this type of thing in Kansas! A coordinating actor taking part in the mission said that "It was fun to see all the different choices people made for their frozen moment. I didn’t give any instructions in advance. I just told everyone to be doing something realistic and not jokey. One guy dropped an entire briefcase full of papers the second before he froze, leaving his papers scattered before him for five minutes. Many froze midway through eating or drinking. A few froze while taking off a jacket. One couple froze kissing." On their site, they document their process for the event. They also share their stories on how they planned to adjust their plan of attack based on past events that they had done. In addition to this stunt, they also bombarded a Home Depot where they shopped in sloooooooow motion for a period of time as well as a mission where hundreds of shirtless male improv actors entered the Abercrombie and Fitch store on 5th Avenue to do a little shopping and posing. The idea is to take real life situations and introduce an unreal or staged element in to it. The results are brilliant. Check out the video below and I'm sure you will agree. xox.
