The Golden Globe nominations were announced today. The Golden Globes are often thought to be an early indicator of how the Oscar nods and wins play out later next year. There are a few nominations that I am thrilled about and others, now seeing that they are nominated, make me want to see the films. I have yet to see Babel but I've heard it is incredible. That movie leads the nominations with 7 nods. I'm very happy to see that THE QUEEN was nominated for Best Drama. Helen Mirren also got a nod, which I fully expected, for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II. My BF always makes fun of me for my college crush but it turns out that Leonardo DiCaprio will be up against himself in the Best Actor in a Drama category for his work in Blood Diamond and The Departed. Although just based on the previews of Blood Diamond, I'm a bit surprised. His South African accent was ummm…less than top notch. I guess I shouldn't judge a performance by a preview though to be fair. One of the most interesting and, I think, close races that I'm interested in will be between the ladies in the Best Actress in Comedy or Musical. The nominees are Annette Bening ("Running with Scissors'), Toni Collette ("Little Miss Sunshine"), Beyonce Knowles ("Dreamgirls"), Meryl Streep ("The Devil Wears Prada") and Renee Zellweger ("Miss Potter"). It's going to be a tight race with some new favorites versus some seasoned pros. The 64th Annual Golden Globes will be shown on January 15th 2007.
